These are real questions that six of our existing students asked Sur
University College before they started their Foundation Year in
October 2001.
About The College Environment
What will happen on my first day?
On your first day you will:

Who will my classmates be?
Your new classmates will be both male and female, mainly Omani and
between the age of 18 – 25 years. As the College is located in
Sur, the majority of Omani students will be from the Sur area although
we do have students from as far away as Salalah and Muscat.
Is there a cafeteria for boys and another
for girls?
Yes.
Will College transport be provided?
Yes, for those students who have requested and paid for such a
service. There will be a separate service for male and female
students.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE TEACHING
How many subjects will I study?
During the Foundation Program you will study 3 subjects in English,
Mathematics and Computers for between 24 – 33 hours a week.
Where are the teachers from?
The English teachers are male and female native English speakers from the UK,
Australia, Canada and USA. Other nationalities include South
Africa, Jordan, Holland and India.
What books will I need?
Books will vary per program of study and must be bought by the
students as part of their studies at the College at the start of each
academic year. You will need textbooks in English Language,
Mathematics, Information Technology and Commerce.
How does the quality of Sur University
College compare with other colleges in Oman?
Sur University College is affiliated with one of the top universities
in Australia and indeed worldwide, as Bond University is a member
of 'Universities 21' which is a union of the top 21 universities in
the world.
What is the difference between college
education and school education?
The main difference will be for you to take full responsibility for
your studies. You will be expected to spend time on your own
preparing for classroom assignments such as presentations and
discussions, as well as doing homework tasks and projects.
At Foundation level, you will need to develop your learning skills and
find your own style for undertaking research, preparation for class,
time management for studying outside class and effective note-taking.
In addition, at undergraduate level, part of your timetable will be
allocated to Learning Methods, a unit which aims to help you get the
most out of your degree studies.

Is the College recognized by the Ministry
of Higher Education?
Yes,
the College works under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher
Education who approves our international affiliation with Bond
University , all the academic programs as well as the
appointment of teaching staff.
How do I register?
You will need to register in person at the College. For details,

Are there any tests I need to take?
Yes, before you can enroll onto the Foundation Program you must take
an entry test in English and Mathematics to determine your level of
English and to make sure that you also have the required standard of
Mathematics.
What formal papers does the College need
to have about me?
When you register on your first day, you need to bring with you 4
passport photographs, a copy of your General Secondary Certificate or equivalent
qualifications and a copy of your passport or other ID.
When will I start?
Normally the first semester of each academic year starts on the 1st
October.
ABOUT THE FOUNDATION PROGRAM
What is the Foundation Year Program?
The medium of teaching for the undergraduate programs
offered by Sur University College will be in English. Therefore,
the Foundation Program has been designed to enable students to reach
the required level of fluency in Reading, Writing, Listening and
Speaking in English.
You will also need a basic
understanding of Mathematics and Information Technology in English
language. Mathematics and I.T. are important elements of the
Bachelor programs and are also included within the Foundation Program.
Will there be a Summer Course?
If
your level of English language and/or Mathematics is not at the
required level to commence undergraduate studies, there will be a
Summer Course in English Language and Mathematics over 10 weeks during
July, August and beginning of September if it is needed.
How much will it cost?
350 R.O. - to include tuition in English language and Mathematics.
ABOUT THE BACHELOR PROGRAMS
What kind of certificate will I get and
is it acceptable in Oman?
Students will be awarded with a Bachelor Degree in either Commerce or
Information Technology upon the successful completion of their
program. There is also the option to be awarded with a Diploma
after you have successfully completed two out of the three years of
your Bachelor program.
All programs have been designed by Bond University Private and
have been approved by the Ministry of Higher Education. This
means that they will be acceptable as a recognized qualification in
Oman. As your Degree Certificate will clearly display our
Bond University affiliation, we are confident that your studies
with such a prestigious university will be highly attractive to
potential employers in Oman and beyond.

Is the College work going to be very
demanding?
Undergraduate life will require dedication and commitment from
yourself if you want to achieve the best results and be successful in
your studies.
Don't forget that although demanding, your time spent with us at Sur
University College will be equally rewarding – you will receive high
quality, internationally recognized qualifications. We will
prepare you for making the move from being a student to being an
employee and improve your English fluency to enable you to speak
