Shanta Borkar is a Lecturer in the Foundation Department at
the Sur University College. Shanta comes from Canada. She has done
several extensive courses in the English language and won many
prestigious awards for the same. Shanta holds a B.A. (Honours) in
Psychology and English Literature and an LL.B. (Honours) in Law.
At SUC apart from teaching Foundation courses in English for
Academic Skills, Shanta teaches English for Academic Purpose
(Business), Technical English I&II, Learning Methods. Shanta was
teaching an Advance Business Communication Course at the Centennial
College in Toronto, Canada. She also developed and delivered a TESL
course to new immigrants to Canada in Toronto. She taught at the
Toronto School for Children with Learning Disabilities and also
tutored young school children and adults at the Toronto Public
Library. As a fully-certified independent Financial Consultant,
Shanta recruited and trained other Consultants. As a Technical
Writer at the National Bank of Kuwait, she wrote the Standard
Operating Procedures for all areas of the Bank and trained the Bank
staff in implementing the same.
Shanta has been a Journalist with the Arab and Kuwait Times;
she covered and reported on cultural events. She also wrote a weekly
business column for the Kuwait Times. She was the Editor of the Law
College Magazine. She has hosted several cultural programs on the
national television in Kuwait. Shanta has been an Instructor with
the World Wildlife Fund, educating children and adults on
environmental issues.
Shanta speaks many languages. She has lived and worked in
the Middle East and has traveled extensively to other parts of the
globe. She loves to share her knowledge, much to the delight of her
students. Shanta does not believe in just teaching her students the
requisite academic skills, but rather in imparting an all-round
education.
