Sarah MacDonald
Sarah MacDonald is a
Canadian English teacher. She teaches in the Foundation Department at
Sur University College in Sur, Oman. She has worked there since
February, 2009. Courses she has taught include English Preparation
Course 1, Technical English 1, English for Academic Purposes
(Business) and Learning Methods. Prior to moving to Oman Sarah worked
at BCM Language Center in Ulsan, South Korea. She taught conversation
English to adults at elementary, intermediate and advanced levels.
She enjoys teaching and wants to challenge and motivate her students
to learn how to communicate in English.
Sarah has a Bachelor
of Arts (High Honours) in International Cooperation and Conflict
Studies with minors in Spanish and Political Studies from the
University of Saskatchewan, in Saskatoon, Canada. It was an
interdisciplinary major which included courses in International
Studies, Political Studies, History, Spanish, Economics, Sociology
and Geography. Much of her undergraduate research focused on the
Middle East. Following her BA, Sarah moved to Ottawa, Canada, where
she completed a Master of Journalism. Her major was print journalism.
She studied newspaper, magazine and online writing, and took some
courses in broadcast journalism and photojournalism as well. She also
has a Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate from
the University of Saskatchewan.
Sarah has also
worked as a journalist. She worked part-time and as a freelancer for
two Canadian newspapers. She was also the Editor in Chief of the
Korea Sun Magazine, an English-language travel and lifestyle magazine
published in Ulsan, South Korea.
Sarah’s long-term
career goal is to teach Middle Eastern politics and history at a
university. In September 2009 was accepted at Durham University,
England, to do a PhD in Middle Eastern Politics, but has deferred for
a year so that she can spend more time in the Middle East.
